Keyboard Showcase Spotlight Featuring: Angelina

April 17th, 2008

Hey, everybody! Glad to see you’re all dropping by again to see who is new. I’m going to present a female keyboardist/pianist named Angelina Rozhdestvina or just Angelina. She’s 24 and was originally born in Moscow, Russia, but raised in London, England. Angelina is also a songwriter, music producer and singer.  Her style of music is a combination of acoustic, soul, ska and pop. In the video, Angelina tells her story about how she was raised and her love of music. She also talks about the progression of her music career. I was impressed when I heard her sing during the video!  That’ when I made up my mind to blog about her.  For me, she’s a mixed of Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse in a way. According to her myspace profile, Angelina found an old record of Whitney Houston in her father’s collection when she was 10. Interestingly, Angelina’s parents had a classical musical background back when they were living in the former Soviet Union, but had to flee to London in 1994.  Also on her myspace profile, Angelina shares how she won her first singing competition at the age of 11 and went on to join her sister and their best friend to form a trio. The group parted ways when she was 18. Since then, she has  started a solo career of her own. I see a great music career in her future. That’s my prediction! Look her up at 2 of her sites at www.myspace.com/angelinaonline and angelinamusic.co.uk. I’ve got to go find more talent. Same as always, GOODBYE & LATER!

Female Artist Mention: Margaux

April 16th, 2008

I’m crashing in with another blog about a female artist named Margaux. She was born in Cologne, Germany. Margaux is a mix of French and Greek. In this video, Margaux is doing a live acoustic session with another guitarist named Seb Mallen. I really dig the video, I must say! My favorite part about the video was her strumming technique along with slapping the guitar for a funky drum kind of beat. That was definitely off the hook. It’s like Margaux is bringing something new to the mix, you know. According to her website, at the age of 5, Margaux’s mother bought her a guitar.  Unfortunately,  her mother unexpectedly died two years later.  Margaux wrote her first song shortly afterwards which in later years became ‘Oceans Apart’.  She developed her guitar playing and her performances when she and her family moved to Southern France at the age of 14.  Later, she moved to London, where she continued to develop her songwriting skills in order to further her musical career. She’s bringing something to the table for us, Ladies.   Until next time, GOODBYE & LATER!

In the video, Haruka performs in a Japanese TV concert on some kind of show. I had no idea she was going to rock out like that. In the video, Fatima is playing the keyboard with a male drummer after a church service. I like the way she played her instrument. It was tight despite the loud drumming. My favorite part about the video was when Fatima did her little keyboard solo. I can’t believe she can play so fast which is cool to me. Fatima is a big fan of gospel music and loves to praise the name of the Lord above. According to her myspace profile, Fatima is also into web and graphic design. She loves poetry, singing, playing the piano, drawing, and writing songs, too. And not to mention, she designed her own website. It all sounds cool to me. Female Artist Mention: Nori Bucci

April 9th, 2008

Today’s artist has all the crazy-fingered skills of an electric guitarist. Her name is Nori Bucci and shee represents Buffalo, New York. In her video, Nori shreds her guitar to the limit while playing her original song called “Recurring Nightmare”. She’s also playing with her band called Gamalon. Gamalon is a popular Buffalo jazz/rock/fusion band. I really dig her shredding ability as a guitarist. My favorite part was her riffs. Nori has a nice hand stretch when it comes to her playing. That is what we as women need to demonstrate more. And Nori is a great example of that. According to both her website and myspace profile, Nori developed an interest in playing guitar at the age of 10 years old. By listening to her favorite records and picking out songs by ear, she taught herself how to play the guitar. Nori has also written guitar based instrumental music and short pieces of fingerstyle guitar composition as a teenager. Very impressive. Also, Nori has won best rock guitarist at the Buffalo music Awards in November of 2003! She has a home studio for her composition, recording, and performing. She has already has 2 CDs out right now called “Speak My Soul” and “Tales of a Dream”. Get them while they’re out, ladies!  Hello, to you fine people today! I’m here to talk about a female guitarist named Edina Balczó. She represents Debrecen, Hungary. In her video, Edina performs her original instrumental song called “Dreams” on her classical guitar. I was very amazed about her playing! My favorite part about it was her finger picking technique( Pick free!). I’ve never heard anyone that I know play like that. Her musical style is miscellaneous ,even though she is a flamenco guitarist. Edina can play rock, classical, flamenco, percussion guitar and so on. According to her myspace profile, with the help of an old Russian guitar owned by her father which had gathered dust for ages on the top of her wardrobe, Edina Balczó started playing the guitar at the age of 17. Her profile also states by using the internet and some advice from her friends, Edina was teaching herself how to play the guitar. Today’s Keyboard Spotlight artist has an interesting story. Her name is Alina Smith and she was born and raised originally in St. Petersburg, Russia. She’s also a songwriter. Her music style is Pop, Soul and mostly R & B. She’s 19 years old and she divides her time living in L.A., New York (The city), Las Vegas and Hollywood in the United States with her husband, Brad. In this video, Alina plays her keyboard while singing her song “Simply Pray”. What a big voice from a young woman! I also had the chance to listen to her other songs on her myspace page and they sound fresh and hip. The song, according to her Youtube profile, is dedicated to her father who it states was mentally abusive towards her and her family.
When Alina was 6 years old, she had to choose between a scholarship to a renowned music academy and a prized invitation to the famed Vaganovsky Ballet School.
